Quantum of Solace

After more than a decade of waiting, a video game is finally ready to step into Goldeneye's ancient, crusty shoes. The N64 classic enjoyed lavish success in 1997, and numerous games (Perfect Dark, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, Everything or Nothing, From Russia With Love) have since tried to cash in on Bond's universal (exports) appeal. But just like a long line of Bond villains, they've all failed dismally.

Casino Royale's release in 2006 introduced us to a new Bond, and games publishers rightly saw this as an ideal opportunity for them to turn over a new leaf. Activision promptly took over from EA, and plans were set in motion for a new game.

Quantum of Solace is the result. Scheduled to come out in November – the month after the movie's general release – the game combines the plots of the two Daniel Craig films. Using the same formidable engine as Call of Duty 4, Quantum of Solace sees the player put in the shoes of MI6's most famous agent in both first and third person shooter modes.

Itchy doesn't want to say too much (Bond himself would be scared by the confidentiality agreements), but suffice to say: it looks nothing short of spectacular. Bond and gaming enthusiasts alike have something special to look forward to.
