October events in Birmingham
Of All the People in All the World
Daily, 12am-9pm
AE Harris Factory
Birmingham
B3 1SZ
This critically acclaimed international art installation lands in Birmingham this month for the first date of a national tour. Attempting to bridge the gap between art and social commentary, the exhibition, if you can call it that, is a series of huge rice mounds representing profound social parallels between some scary statistics, for example 'people currently training as teachers versus people who auditioned for the x-factor this year'. You can guess which was larger. Witty, insightful and though provoking for less than £3. Do it.
The Streets
Birmingham
Birmingham boy done good Mike Skinner returns to his hometown on the back of his fourth album. From the early stoned musings of classic debut 'Original Pirate Material' to the grimaced fame of 'The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living', the nation has lived through the ups, downs and dealings of one of its most underrated musical talents. As with all Streets performances a party is guaranteed, but the addition of the hometown crowd adulation could well elevate this into one of the best Birmingham gigs of the year.
