November in Bristol

Well kids, it's time to stock up on those vests and long johns for November is upon us. But don't fret, there is a veritable banquet of fun to be had in the coming month so banish that idle persons' frostbite and be assured that your fingers and toes will still be around for Christmas.

For the especially chilly, head to clockwork (Stokes Croft's Mecca) on October 31st to be graced by unhealthy warmth, sticky floors, and ear-drum abusive beats. After an attempted closure the club has clawed its way back from the threat of a capitalist comedown to offer a Halloween spectacular and, though it might appear so, not everybody will be wearing a mask.

Sounds a bit grimy? A little too synthetic? Never fear; there's plenty of live music with real people and instruments to be enjoyed this month. Northern rockers with a lot to shout about, The Black Bloc, will be gracing The Croft on Halloween night. But for the big gigs take a stroll to the Carling Academy and prepare for a deluge of talent. We have magic-punksters Rancid on the 4th, Horace Andy on the 13th, and the Black Keys on the 17th to name but a few.

And what of bonfire night we hear you holler? Well indeed Bristol is fully prepared for November's cherry on top. For the big people Victoria Park is the place to be, with explosions a-plenty and much merriment to be had; you can't really go wrong. If there are smaller people in tow, the wonderful ladies and gents at Bristol Zoo Gardens are putting on the annual bang-less bonfire night. Awash with noiseless fireworks and child friendly activates like face painting and lantern building, this event will keep the tears away from toddlers and pets alike.

But if you just want to take it easy while the cold front sets in we would be inclined to suggest a few drinks, a comfy chair and a good film... which is why they built Cabot Circus. Avoid the shops and make a bee line to the sparkly new cinema. Book a place in the director's suite and you can enjoy all these luxuries with an enormous screen to boot.

Ahh the gluttonous festivities of winter time.
