Oxford's best Sunday lunches

Mourn the end of another weekend with some good food

The parents are in town, you're dreadfully hungover and they want to go for a 'nice Sunday lunch'. Don't rack your brain too hard (we wouldn't want you to hurt yourself in such a post-inebriated condition), just take a peak at our list of the top Sunday lunches in Oxford. Mum and Dad will be delighted and you can slowly nurse yourself back to human being status. By Maxine Glass.

The Trout
12pm-9pm 8.25

This pub has a fab location, with food and drink to match, making it something of a legendary drinking spot in these parts. Definitely one for a drink with the parents.

Radcliffe Arms
12pm-2.30pm 4.50

The Radcliffe Arms is a funny place. For half of the day it's a typical, quiet Jericho local. For the other half it serves decent, astonishingly cheap food and finds itself rammed to the gills with students fighting over piles of sausage and chips and ravenously tearing up pizzas. If you're hungry, on Walton Street, and with less than a fiver in your sky rocket, the Radcliffe will be your sort of pub.

Browns
12pm-4/5pm or later 10.95 approx

The atmosphere at Browns is lively and vibrant and the food, if a little unadventurous, is tasty. Reservations are not taken but don't be put off if there's a bit of a queue; an aperitif at the bar will whet your appetite.

Isis Tavern
12pm-8.30/9pm 6.95

Oh, we do like to be beside the riverside, especially if we get to go to pubs like this one. There's a great big beer garden to run around in, plus good food and lots of it. Whether or not the rowing-orientated decor is your thing, you'll enjoy sitting here supping whilst watching others do the hard work on the river.

The Elm Tree
12pm-6pm 5.95

Good for sports fans and music fans, there's table football and pool to while away the hours and regular live music, including an open mic night on Sundays. The boss has applied for a late licence on weekdays, which can only add to The Elm Tree's status as a popular Cowley watering hole.
