Two days on the cheap in Oxford
Oxford on a budget.
STAY
The traveller’s favourite and the cheapest in town by a mile is Oxford Backpackers – still 12 a night in a shared dorm room.
(Cost 24)
SHOP
Rummage for bargains in the original Oxfam or Gloucester Green Market – alternatively wander the Covered Market and try not to blow the budget on cakes and pasties.

ATTRACTIONS
Sightseeing is free and Oxford is small, so ignore that wholly unnecessary open-top bus and walk around some colleges. Take in the Ashmolean – a kind of bite-sized British Museum – and the Museum of Modern Art which is now free all the time.
(free)
EAT
Rice Box is definitely the cheapest dinner in town. For a touch of French sophistication go to Pierre Victoire and make sure you order the set menu, or to save some more cash for booze, go to the kebab vans, not glamorous, but a huge baked potato for under 3 should keep you going.

DRINK
Student pubs it is. Top choices in town: The Turf or The Grapes. In Cowley go to The Star or The Cricketers Arms. Thirst, Baby, Maxwells and the Duke of Cambridge all have great happy hours.
(30 - that’s your limit)
CLUB
Ok this is stretching a point in Oxford, but spend one night dancing and drinking in the new clutch of DJ bars – Thirst, Baby Love, Raoul’s and Freud’s are all free and open late. Hurrah!
(16 - including bag of chips going home)
Total – 95
