Guillermo del Toro Presents 'The Orphanage'
As the Oscars have come and gone, the cinemas are back in full swing and Oscar winning director, Guillermo del Toro (The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth) is back with new film, The Orphanage.
Unlike Oliver Twist, this tale don't sing and dance. Like his earlier films, del Toro once again astounds with his gothic style, weaving a magical supernatural thriller which tells the story of a young girl, Laura, who spends most of the happiest years of her childhood growing up in an orphanage. Returning thirty years later with her husband, their seven year old son, and a dream of restoring and re-opening the long-abandoned orphanage. But all is not as it seems. The new home and mysterious surroundings awaken Simon's imagination and the boy begins to spin a web of fantastic tales and not-so-innocent games. Finding herself drawn into her child's strange universe resonates with echoes long forgotten, of deeply unsettling memories of her own childhood.
Laura slowly becomes convinced that something long-hidden and terrible is lurking in the old house, something waiting to emerge and inflict appalling damage...
Set to be another big hit, The Orphanage is well worth your lunch money. Showing in cinemas from 21st March.
