The Mitre and Turl Bar
Basically two old pubs, taken over by Beefeater and stuck together. The Turl – NB the opening times for this are different to Mitre –, as its name suggests, is a nearly but not quite Turf down a little alley with a beer garden. The only advantage it has over the Turf is that you can definitely find a seat. It's picturesque from the outside, but offers a surreal take on make–shift medieval with pool table inside. The Mitre is a maze of small rooms and nasty carpet with a restaurant area on the side, offering such pub grub classics as Peking crispy duck burgers – £5 –. It's part of a chain and you can tell so stick to the Turl next door.
