Head of the River
At its best on – sunny – summer days, when you can nurse your drink outside on the terrace, the Head of the River is the best place to stock up on Dutch courage before you attempt punting in Oxford. If, however, you are the sort who enjoys being on the river without actually being 'on' the river, you can smugly sup Pimm's and observe others' attempts –always worth a few giggles. The food is generously portioned but unexceptional and a little pricey. But the proximity to the river will always be enough to tempt the punters – in both senses of the word —guffaw –. Click here to buy itchyOxford, the UK's best–selling guide to what's on in Oxford, including hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, and shopping.
