Orienteering skill is a must–have to find this incredibly cool old boozer, along with maybe a bivvy bag and Kendal mint cake, but don't let that put you off wandering down on a Sunday to experience a spot of performance poetry at their regular open mic event. Alternatively, join the funked up punks for one of the many sweaty gigs held upstairs. Complete with traditional dodgy pub carpets, you could do worse than soak up the atmosphere and a pint with the rosy–cheeked regulars. You feel like you've earned it as one of the lucky few who managed to track the damned place down.
